Blackbeard Was a Friend of Mine My family history has a tale that back in the 1700's the man who would become my ancestral great great, ggrrr grandfather was sent to the states from Scotland on "The Good Ship George" and that somewhere off the coast of the Carolina's the ship was captured by Blackbeard who took grandpa and two other men to be personal cabin boys. The fellas didn't like being personal cabin boys to the pirate. They escaped overboard in wine kasks; one man drowned, grandpa and the other guy made it to shore, were found the following morning. The man with my grandpa gave the man the Masonic stress signal, it was recognized and the two men were taken in, given food, clothing and shelter till they were able to travel on. When they left, their benefactor gave the one man two shillings, two pairs of clothes and two days rations of food and because grandpa was in the company of a Mason, he was given one shilling, etc. This has fascinated me for years and I like pirate history anyway.
